Motions to Amend By-laws of OBWA
As authored by the Executive Committee 2011-2012
- The amendments listed have been designed to simplify the election process and encourage members to become involved in the operation of their Association.
- Motion 1 – to amend the OBWA By-law D1-A Elections
- The current By-law reads:
- §
- D1-A The election of officers will be held in June. An elected term of office shall be 1 year with
- a limit of 2 consecutive terms in the same position.
- The amended by-law to read:
- § D1-A All positions on the Executive Committee must be elected every year. All elected
- Executive Committee members may run for a second term in the same position.
- Motion 2 – to amend the OBWA By-law D1-B Elections
- The current By-law reads:
- §
- D1-B Nominations for all Executive positions, except that of the President, shall be open to all
- members of good standing.
- The amended by-law to read:
- §
- D1-B Any member of the OBWA may run for any position with the exception of the position of
- president. Members may be nominated for only one position on the Executive Committee.
- Motion 3 – to amend the OBWA By-law D1-C Elections
- The current By-law reads:
- §
- D1-C The nominees for the position of President must have served two years on the Executive
- The amended by-law to read:
- §
- D1-C Presidential candidates must have served in any position or positions on the Executive
- Committee for the previous two years.
- Motion 4 – to amend the OBWA By-law D2-B Elections
- §
- D2-B If a vacancy for the position of President occurs, the 1st Vice President will assume the
- duties for the remaining term, the 2nd Vice President will advance to 1st Vice and a new 2nd Vice
- will be elected. If the remaining term is longer than 7 months, it shall be considered one full
- year.
- The amended by-law to read:

- D2-B If the President is unable to complete the term of office for any reason, the 1st Vice
- President will fill both the position of 1st Vice President and President until the end of that term.
- Motion 5 – Addition of a new By-law named to be named D1-F to amend the OBWA By-law D Elections
- §
- D1-F All elections will be conducted by the Past President. Votes will be counted by the Past
- President and one other person who is not running for any office
- Motion 6 – Amendment to change the operating year to run from January to December.
- The following amendments have been submitted by Lucy Stewart and Betsy Gross.
- All submissions of amendment proposals must be circulated to the members of the OBWA.
- This does not imply that any submissions are endorsed by the Executive Committee

Motions to Amend By-laws of OBWA

- Under D1 Elections
- A) The election of officers will be held in June of each year.
- B) The term of office for all members of the Executive shall be one (1) year.
- C) Good standing. To stand for President, a member must have been part of the Executive for a
- minimum of 1 year
- D) With the exception of the position of President, 1st Vice and 2nd Vice, all other Members of the
- Executive may seek re-election to the same position served the previous year for a total of two terms
- (2 years total).
- After serving two terms, the Member has the option of seeking election to another position or
- resigning from the Executive
- The present D becomes E and the present E becomes F.

- If the executive does not follow election protocol, as stated in the By-Laws, the election will be
- considered null and void and a new election shall be called.
